Brynhildr in the Darkness (極黒のブリュンヒルデ, Gokukoku no Brynhildr) is a Japanese manga series written and drawn by Lynn Okamoto, who previously known for the Sci-Fi/Horror/Mixed Genre series Elfen Lied, and the Olympic skiing-based drama Nononono. This manga has been serialized by Weekly Young Jump since January 2012. Brynhildr In The Darkness is his first series to get an anime adaptation since his previous work was somewhat truncated. The series eventually ends in 2016 with 18 tankōbon volumes.
School boy Ryōta Murakami, who cannot forget his female childhood friend whom he let die in an accident, feeling that he must fulfill their promise of proving the existence of aliens, he has continuously looked up at the sky as a member of the astronomy club. One day, a girl named Neko Kuroha who looks exactly like his childhood friend appears as a transfer student. It turns out that she is a magic-user that has run away from a research lab.

- A pink-haired girl is another recurring theme in Okamoto's works, appearing in Brynhildr, Elfen Lied and Nononono.
- Mako Fujisaki's voice actress Mamiko Noto was also the voice actress of Yuka. Yuka is one of the main characters in Okamoto's previous work Elfen Lied.
